Chiropractic physician focusing on prevention, pain relief

ZANESVILLE – After several years in the Columbus area, Tri-Valley High School graduate and Zanesville native Dr. Ryan Weaver hopes to bring a new kind of chiropractic care to Zanesville – a holistic view focused on prevention as well as pain relief.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for his practice, Apex Spine and Performance at 1535 Maple Ave., will take place at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

“We need a serious overhaul of our health care system. Our health care is broken, it is a sick-care system,” he said.

“Ninety-five percent of my patients come through the door in some kind of pain. Neck, lower back, headaches. We want to get you out of pain, but we want to keep you from having those ailments.”

Part of Weaver’s plan includes weekly spinal workshops, to help patients with preventing pain. “It is not a chiropractic pep rally. We focus on stretches, proper nutrition.”

The workshops will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at Apex Spine and Performance. Weaver hopes that they can be part of a lifestyle change for area residents.

“When pain is gone, we want you to continue to eat healthy. You go to the dentist, why aren’t we taking care of the spine and nervous system the same way?”

Weaver notes that by the time a patient is in pain, something has been going on for a long time. He hopes more frequent visits for preventative care can advert visits resulting from pain.

“I want people to walk into the office without pain and say I’d like to have my spine assessed.”

In addition to pain relief and prevention, Weaver said good chiropractic care can result in better athletic performance. He notes that professional sports teams get adjusted before taking the field. His training includes extremity adjustments as well, and says he can fix a sprained ankle quicker than traditional methods, and without drugs or surgery.

“We have a huge drug problem here in the city, let alone the state, and most of those people started because they were people who went to a doctor for a muscular skeletal injury,” Weaver stated.

“We aren’t giving a pill. We aren’t doing surgery. We find out why do they have these problems. We are going to improve their way of life, without a drug or surgery. I don’t want you just to not have pain, I want you to have optimal performance,” Weaver added.
